(Ink of the most successful race m *etings ever held at New Plymouth was brought to a close on Friday last. In no previous year has the anniversary of the province been looked forward to with more pleasurable anticipations, and there can he no doubt that (he general, as well as the sporting public, thoroughly enjoyed themselves on both days of the races. The weather at the bee-inning- of the week was of a very unsettled charade:-. Opawa cut, out the running at a hot pace, which lie maintained till the end, but not without a struggle, as Tainhourini and Resolution were racing close beside him, and after an exciting contest between the throe, lie was declared the winner hy a length, dead heat for second place ; Cornelia beaten otf.
