INSTITUTE COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the above Committee was held at the Albion Hotel, Carlyle, on Wednesday evening last. Present: —Mr Gibson (in the chair), Messrs Tennent, Mackay, Hurrell, Bagctt, and Hutton, (secretary.) The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and signed by the Chairman. The Secretary reported that the funds in hand amounted to £l6 10s, but that several subscriptions were still unpaid. The expenses up to date amounted to about 30s. The Secretary also reported progress on the several matters undertaken, pursuant to resolutions passed at the last meeting, und stated that the use of one of the Immigration Barrack rooms had been obtamed. Arrangements had also been made, by which the Institute would have the use of the A.C. District Library. Applications had been made to the Government, through the head of the Confiscated Lands Department, for the reservation of a central allotment as a building site. The matter was still ponding. Letters had also been written' to His Honor the Superintendent, and to the
Hon. Major Atkinson, asking generally for their support, in any way in which they could advance the intoiests of the Institute. Favourable, replies had been received in each instance. It was then proposed by Mr Hutton (secretary), and seconded by Mr McKay—“Thai the Committee, consisting of all those.who attended Ihe preliminary meeting, held on the 24th Anri!, be now dissolved, and that a working committee, consisting of Messrs Tennent, Ivcss, Gibson, Sherwood, and the mover, bo appointed to carry on the management of the Tnsdtuto, and to hold office until the Jirst annual meeting of the members of the Institute.” Canned. The meeting then broke up.
