DISTRICT NEWS
PONGAROA. During last week Mr and Mrs D McKenzie, of Palmerston North, visited Pongaroa. Aircraftsman J. Morris and Gminer A. P. Campbell recently spent leave in Pongaroa. Despite wintry weather conditions, the weekly cai'ds-aud-danee evening was well patronised. Winners were: Mrs E. Lynch and Mr W. Jlolden. Competition, Mr W. Holden. Next Saturday (October 2nd) a field day in aid of patriotic funds will be held on the domain. The programme includes hockey and football tournaments. The members of the W.W.S.A. are undertaking- the catering and would be grateful for any donations of cakes or savouries for the refreshment booth. At a recent meeting of th c Home Guard a very interesting lecture on th e Tunisian campaign was given by Major Rallantyn'o. Resides Honn Guardsmen, there were also mem bers of the I.M.R. present. At the conclusion a very hearty vote of thanks for an inspiring address was proposed by Captain Harold and passed.
