EKETAHUNA SHOP DAY

JUNIOR RED CROSS. Thursday last was indeed a “red letter day” for tile members of the Eiketahuna Junior Ited Cross, the occasion being a special effort in the form of a shop day, to raise funds. The “shop’ 5 was located at the District Agency in Main Street, i.he premises having been kindly loaned by Mr A. H. Gray. Early shoppers were in evidence shortly after P a.m. and in one instance a customer’s purchases proved so bulky tliat one of the boys d <1 his “good turn” early in the day in helping her home with her parcels. Bags of home-made sweets were easily the best sellers while supplies lasted, and it was soon necessary to hoist the “sold out ’ sign in regard to those. Goods Tor s.;tr were in great variety and included many articles made by the Junior Red Cross members. Prior to commencing business, prices charged for various items * n sale had been ascertained by enquiry from local tradesmen, but something must have gone wrong regarding several jars of cream, which hung firs until late in the day, when they were finally sold at “half price to The young people in charge of the shop day were Mae Caseldine (president). Cora Davie, Jack Powell, John Dawson, Alick Golder and Muriel Gray (secretary), and as r. result of their efforts the Junior Red Cross funds will benefit t-o the extent of £lO 17s 7d. This amount will be forwarded to the N.Z Rod Cross Society in response to a special apical and will ultimately be devoted, together with amounts similarly raised throughout New Zealand, to the assistance of various orphanages.
