A REVIEW OF THE WAR NEWS The Allied outlook in Tunisia today is brighter than, for some months, and it would appear from the achievements of both the Fust and Eighth Armies, and the admissions oi German spokesmen, that the enemy are deeply anxious regarding the outcome. Th© total of prisoners is steadily mounting, while the remaining Axis defenders have been forced to retreat hurriedly. Th© British Navy is reported to be most active in the Mediterranean wher© the concentration of an evacuation fleet would prov© most costly to the enemy. A link-up of all th© Allied forces is distinctly probable in the very near future. Warnings have been issued frequently that the Japanese have onilt up their air strength tremendously in the Pacific, but the latest reports of the failur© of an enemy raid some considerable weighty would indicate that the American air units have also been greatly reinforced. Th© enemy is apparently determined to continue forcing tactics regardless of cost. Th© lull on the Donetz Front has not been broken, but in the Kuban the Russian forces are slowly pushing the Huns towards the sea. A German military spokesman in advancing excuses for the failur© of th© Axis forces to hold the Russians. makes much of the unsuitability of the weather. The Axis desperation is manifested in the decision to concentrate all upon the cutting of Allied supply lines by more and mor© intensive submarine and torpedo-boat action. Again, reports speak of the training of Germans as guerrilla fighters in preparation for the coming invasion.
