An Admiralty communique states that 'a. large troop transport and a supply ship have been destroyed and two further supply ships hit. probably sunk, bv British submarines operating in the Mediterranean. Tlie troop transport was attacked olf Sicily when southward hound by a "submarine commanded by Lieut. R. B. Lakiu ; despite the heavy escort, the attack was successful and the vessel was lift by three torpedoes and sank. Off the Gulf of Naples, a submarine commanded by Lieut. A. (J. G. liars. torj>edoed a large enemy supply ship. This vessel was seriously damaged and its destruction is considered probable. A submarine carried out tin* bombardment ol a brick rail viaduct near Palermo securing a large number of hits a.nd considerable damage was done to the viaduct.

Another enemy supply vessel of medium size was torpedoed and probably sunk off the Italian coast by a submarine commanded by Lt.Oommander L W. Napier. The vessel was proceeding northward from Xaj)lo escorted by E-boats. A largo •supply ship under escort was attacked and sunk in the Aegean Sea by a submarine commanded by L.t. A. J.
