One of the first acts of th© new Governor of French Somaliland, General Bayardelle, was to return to the population the radios which the Vichy authorities had confiscated. The Djibouti correspondent of the BMtish United Press reports that General Bayardelle released those taken into custody for Fighting French sympathies and arrested 33 Italian Armistice Commission members. General De Gentilhomme. in addressing the population, declared: “Yon have been in the dark about what has been going on. Now you are free to have your own opinions. No pressure will be applied—you can read any foreign newspaper you like and listen to any radio station you please.’’
