TRAMPERS CAUGHT IN FOG

SPEND NIGHT IN BUSH. Caught by a heavy fog while out tramping in the bush near Otaki on Tuesday, throe young men and a girl, all of Island Bay, spent a wet cold and uncomfortable night and were unable to find their way back to the road till 11.30 a.in. yesterday. Members of the party were: Ronald Smith, Gwen Smith (his sister), Nick Todoski and Noel Halversen. Mr Smith is aged about 21 years and the others are about 17 years. The party was camped at Baxter’s old mill, Reikorangi. They went into the bush at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday, and, when they had not returned by 6.30 p.m., Constable W. A. Caldwell organised search parties. By 11.30 the next day, however, the party had reached the road about five miles from where they left it.
