The British Press lias renewed its demand for the opening of a second iront in Europe, lhe newspapers emphasise tiiat Tile defeat oi tn© Nazis in Europe must not be left to the Russians alone. “An Allied invasion of Europe this year is essential for votary,’ they say. Mr \V. L Garvin, writing in tire Sunday Express, declares “that a su.pi cine ana stark sacrifice on something like the Russian scale will be required if the hopes of the Democracies for 1943 are t>© b>e i ealised by the end of the year*. We should never forget that tbe duty of* the Democracies towards the Russians is not to admire but to relieve them and this can be don© only by direct intervention in Europe The Sunday Express comments editorially tlius: “We have struck hard ana usefully in North Africa but this is not enough.
