FRUIT AND VEGETABLES'
WINDOW DRESSING ALLEGED. The law is very definite with regard to the display of goods, part-n-.i---larly fruit and vegetables in shop windows and the necessity of the goods conforming with those actually sold to customers. Prosecutions under the Act have within recent years been numerous particularly in the cities and the penalties imposed ter breaches have been heavy. It would appear, however, that ill Pahiatua, in one or two cases, this “window-dressing” is most obvious. Price Tribunal and Department ins 1 lectors would find ample grounds here for prosecutions, and it is to be hoped that this timely warning will be sufficient to bring an end to a very dishonest practice, Possibly the enforcement of the law owing to the shortage of labour is proving most difficult and for this reason, residents would be advised to report breaches. One fruiterer attempted, after the issue of a recenjt price order, to sell bananas at a price over fifty per cent, above the gazetted price.
