Sixteen civilians and 15 soldiers were arrested in a. brawl lasting an hour at Bondi, involving nearly 2000 people as well as a considerable number of military iind civilian police When the military police attempted to arrest three soldiers on charges of desertion, civilians interfered. The police state tliat there were at least 50 separate fights at one stage. One arrested man had almost every piece of clothing torn from liis body, and he was placed i" & military truck wearing only his shoes and socks, and a number of jieople were treated for minor injuries. The peak traffic in the popular seaside suburb was held up for an hour
