CIVILIANS FOR FREEZING WORKS
TARANAKI MANPOWER DIRECTION. Electric Telegraph—Press Association NifW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 28 Direction into the freezing industry of men liable to immediate military service is being undertaken bv the Taranaki District Manpower Officer in accordance with instructions from the War Cabinet. The. policy adopted in an attempt to furnish the industry with sufficient labour to meet tho demand of the peak killing period is that it is better to direct into the industry men at present in civil life who are liable to immediate military service, than to withdraw men from the army because of the disorganisation caused by the latter course. Tho men directed will undertake whatever work is allocated by tlie management and receive award rates. They will ho transported to and from work, a charge being made.
