PROTEST TO KING OF ITALY
MANY DEMANDS MADE RESTORATION OF INDEPENDENCE . WITHDRAWAL FROM RUSSIAN FRONT. (Received 11 a.m.) United Press Assn.—l3y Electric Telegraph—Copy right. LONDON,. December 28. Crown Prince Umberto and members of the Italian High Command have protested to King Victor Emanuel that Italy is virtually undefended. They demanded. in a strongly-worded memorandum that Italy's main attention be diverted to tlie defence of Corsica and Sardinia- and the “restoration of Italy's full independence and the elimination of foreign influence.’' This is stated in a message from Lausanne quoted by Moscow. Also among the proposed measures for home security are demands that all Italian troops be withdrawn from the Russian front, the formation of women's battalions for coastal defence and the calling up of lb-year-old boys for military service.
