Lt is now revealed that the British and New Zealand force which outflanked Axis troops at Matratin drove a strong German rearguard from Nofilia where they were csconsed in a Wadi and also in Nofiliai fort. The enemy obviously did not expect the attack so soon after breaking out from Matratin. The Axis forces at Nofilia panicked when British tanks crashed into their gun positions. Two hundred and fifty wer© taken prsoner, tanks were knocked out and guns captured. The Germans rallied and continued to resist all day but at night under increasing pressure they pulled out and raced westwards. During the Nofilia action a small New Zealand force gave the Germans some of their own medicine when it got Behind German positions and laid mines across a route possible for retreat and some Gorin ails were blown up. Tlu* retreat was then diverted along the beach.
