ALLIED PATROLS IN TUNISIA
GERMAN STRENGTH NOT KNOWN. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON. Dec. 22. Allied patrols stabbing north-east of Medjez El Bab contacted the Axis forces fifteen miles eastward. Other patrols encountered the Germans ten miles south-west of Mate ur. but the fact that the enemy is more distant than previously is not regarded as an indication of a general withdrawal to Terburba. French reconnaissances suggest that the enemy is not in strengtß it* South Tunisia. Apparently both sides are still developing arrangements for a lecisive clash. Germans rushed from Russia have appeared among the men captured. They admitted that they were volunteers to serve in Libya to escape the Russian winter and they were surprised to fiijd themselves in Tunisia.
