LOCAL FRUIT PRICES
SOME LINES UNPROCURABLE When a local fruiterer was shown a list of Wellington prices he expressed the opinion that only the lowest price in each class had been quoted. Allowing for freight rates and different sources of supply does not entirely dispose of the discrepancy. “We wish we could get down to those prices for Xmas,’* said Mr Young, “the fruit cannot be bought wholesale for that.’’ The following prices were ruling in Pahiatua this morning: Peaches 2s to 3s per lb., tomatoes up to 3s 6d ; plums, Is 8d; peas 7d per lb. The Wellington prices quoted were : Peaches 1s ; plums Is 4d: grapefruit 6d to 8d each in Pahiatua and Wellington peas 4 lb for Is. Cherries, grapes and red currants are unprocurable in Pahiatua. Apples arc absent from every &isplay.
