EARTHQUAKES IN TURKEY

It is feared that about 1.000 persons were killed in a heavy earthquake m north-eastern Anatolia. The affected area includes Tokat, Niksar. and Erbaa and all houses at Erbaa collapsed and fires are still burnng. Swiss radio reports that a. scries of earthquake shocks rocked northeastern and central Turkey for the past month. President Ineunu is at present touring the devastated areas and the latest shocks occurred during his visit to one of the stricken areas where scores had been killed and more than 2.000 homes destroyed. Earthquakes have also shaken a district near Ankara where tremors lasting for two days killed 25. Berlin radio reported that high Turkish officials were among the victims.
