•Linen flax is pretty risky; it has been a failure in my district,” declared a Lochiel (Southland) farmer before the Armed Forees Appeal Board at Invercargill when asked what ho would grow in a 10-acre paddock, linen flax or wheat. He had not grown any previously, and when asked why, he said he did not think it was necessary. He will now be given the opportunity to try his hand at linen flax growing because the board decided to. adjourn sine die an appeal for liis son and release him from camp for farm work, a condition being that ten acres of linen flax be grown on the property.
