LESS ICING ON CAKES
The acute shortage of materials used for the icing of cakes has resulted in manufacturers being compelled to reduce their operations considerably, says the Christchurch Star-Sun. The majority of the city firms are now so short of supplies that, in some cases, wedding cakes only are being iced, and in others, styles involving a limited amount of icing have been adopted in order to conserve supplies for wedding cakes. One city man said that his firm had be< n compelled to close three of its shops as a result of the shortage of materials, the chief factor being sugar and sultanas.
