WOMEN’S PATRIOTIC MEETING. (Own Correspondent). There was a small attendance at the June meeting of the Akitio Women’s Patriotic Society which was held in Pongaroa on P rid ay. Apologies for absence wer e received from the President, Mrs F H. Mayman and the following members, Me.sdames L. Bowrie. P. R Kent, S. C. Humphries, R C. Satlierley and RE. Meech. Correspondence included an acknowledgment for lijs Christmas parcel from Pte. Graham Speedy, and also one from Mrs H. Thomas, Waimiro. for her two soldier sons.’ parcels. A circular fioni Red Cross Headquarters, Wellington, was received. showing a number of articles to be sewn, if and when materials are available It was unanimously agreed to support the request from the WairaraPv Centre of the Red Cross and donate £l towards the purchase of cakes .to soldiers in hospital The following donations wore received: £1 for sewing materials from Mrs J. H Gibbons; £1 Is from Mrs D. W. Gray (beimr proceeds from sale of apples) ; £2 from Mr G. HLeach (being proceeds of sale of black fieeco). Clothing (for the Lady Galway Guild was received from Mesdames R. Cooper, a»d J K. Burnett; linen ami mittens for Red Cross from Miss H. Hansen, Mrs Kayser and Mrs Hartgill. A quantity of wool received from Wairarapa Bed Cross for knitting into socks was distributed. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames A. P. Campbell and S. Meech. Mr R. Cooper. Puketoi. has returned from a holiday sjient in ton Miss B Williams. Child Welfare Officer, A-isited this county on Tuesday. Miss J. Kent, of the Wellington Hospital staff is spending annual leave with her parents Mr Mrs PR Kent Mr and Mrs G T. Smith spent the week-end in Pongaroa. Mr C. P. Hunter has returned from a visit to Wellington. Mrs R. Hollis has returned to Pongaroa after a short holiday.
