PAHIATUA A. & P. ASSN.

SECOND EDITION

BALANCE SHEET PRESENTED EXCELLENT FI NAN Cl A L POSITION. A meei ng of the executive of the Pahiatua A. and P. Association was held in the office of the secretary (Mr J. A. Walsh) last evening. There was a good attendance, and the president (Mr H. Cotter) was in the chair. A balance-sheet in connection with the recent Show was presented. The gate receipts were the largest in the history of the Association, and a similar remark would apply to the entries, which reached the record total of £132 9s, with about £ll in fees outstanding and considered good. On the expenditure side the largest item is prize money £253 Us 6d, as against £223 19s 6d paid to winning exhibitors last year. When outstanding subscriptions, entry fees, sideshow space eic are collected the profit at the end of the financial year, May 31st, will be about £7O, with no liabilities. This is

considered the best financial position the Association has been in for very many years.

Speaking on the financial position as disclosed in the balajice-skeet, the chairman said the executive must congratulate themselves on the highly gratifying financial report. “With small Associations such as ours it is very difficult to make financial ends meet. A lot of the success of the Show must be attributed to the stewards-*—a body ol outstandingly fine men, who worked together in perfect harmony. AJy job was a u exceedingly pleasant ~ one. And with the great assistance 1 leceiv© lrom the officials and stewards L find it very hard to drop out. The public don’t realise the vast amount of work there is ir running a Show. 1 must pay a tribute to the work of the secretary. 1 have kept m close touch with him, and he has done his part very well and at a minimum of cost. A word of praise is due to him. 1 have to thank Air E. H. Lett, Air V incent Lett, and Air Tom Clarke for the great assistance they gave us when the pump on the Showground® iailed to function; Air T Biggar for the loan of stock for the guessing competitions; Alessrs Row ley Hunter and A. Vibert for driving stock, free of charge, to and from the show ; the stewards in charge of the parade. They* did their job remarkably well. It was a splendid parade and well carried cut; members of the Young Farmers’ Clubs for officiating as stewards: the judges who gave their services free; Air C. H. Vincent, and his assistant Air J. D. Thomson, for controlling th e gates and tin cash incidental thereto—their organisation was perfect ; Air F. E. Ward for valuable assistance with stock; also Mr A Finlay for help oil the grounds. I would like to make six*cjal mention of the able and efficient manner the few stewards of the dance on Show Night carried out their duties The general opinion seemed to be that it was one of the best conducted functions of its kind ever held in the district. It was unfortunate that a little trouble occurred outside ibe hall in the form of a bout of fisticuffs. Incidents of this nature are very difficult to avoid and are beyond the jurisdiction of the officials. Many warm tributes of praise came from exhibitors for the manner in which they had been treated the attention they received and the courtesy extended to them.”

The* threatened mix-up in Show* dates was discussed at considerable length and the president assured tile meeting that lie and the secretary had the matter well in hand, but that- nothing ot a definite nature could be done until after the meeting of the Eastern Council at Hastings to-day.
