A HEAD-ON COLLISION
dust CLOS'D OBSCURES DRIVER’S VISION.
Two cars were involved in a headon collision on a straight stretch ot main highway between Woodville and Napier near MaharaharA railway station at about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. One of the vehicles which W as proceeding from Wellington to Napier was driven by Mr Boland Gapes, company director, of Wellington and he was accompanied by Miss Ardell. The other car was driven bv Mr R. C. Cunningham o! Mangara.wa, near 'VVoodville; and Mrs Cunningham was also in the car. Mrs Cunningham received slight abrasions about the. head, but the other occupants of the cars escaped uninjured, though both vehicles were considerably damaged Just south of the place ot impact was a strip of road in the process of tar-sealing on one side only. Ahead of the machines that were carrying out the tar-sealing work was a sweeper, the revolving brush on which was evidently creating a cloud of dust. The sweeper was coming towards Gapes and he had to pull over to his wrong side to pass it. The large dust cloud apparently obscured his vision and he collided head-on with the other car.
