YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUBS

ANNUAL FIELD DAY HELD AT REGBY PARK. There was an exceptionally good attendance at the Baliance and Mangatainoka Young Farmers’ Clubs’ fourth annual Field Day, which was held in brilliant weather at Rugby Park yesterday. The attendance included a party of 24 members of the North Taranaki Young Farmers’ Club, which is at present touring the Nortn Island, and was present during the morning part of the programme A very interesting series of lectures and demonstrations was given, in the course of which much varied information into different branches of farming was imparted to those who attended. Mr G. Cotter, chairman of the Mangatainoka Club, in opening the Field Day welcomed the Taranaki Young Farmers and expressed pleasure that they had found it possible to stop on the way. He also welcomed them on behalf of the Ballance and Mangatainoka Young Farmers’ Clubs. Apologies lor absence were' read from Messrs W. F. McLaren of Masterton and F. E. Ward, advisory president of the Man. gatainoka Club. MORNING PROGRAMME. The morning programme consisted of :n ■demonstration arranged by the Jersey Breeders’ Club, in which Mr T. Raniord, of Whakaronga, Palmerston North, gave an explanatory lecture on points for the dairy breeder. illustrated by reference to a jersey cow and bull kindly lent by Mr A. R. Wylie (Xikau). At the conclusion oi the demonstration, Mr F. Bremner. president ol the Ballance Club, proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Ranford for his veryinteresting demonstration, this being carried by acclamation. Before the departure of the Taranaki contingent, their President. Mr A. Johnson, expressed the hearty thanks of the Club to the local Clubs for arranging the field day—one of the objects of the tour had been to meet members of Young Farmers' Clubs, and they had not seen any until this time, and they were very glad of the opportunity He also expressed the gratitude of the Taranaki Club to Mr Ranford for his very interesting demonstration, which was one of the best, he had heard in a. long experience of such talks. Mr G. (’otter suitably replied. and thre«3 cheers were heartily given for each club. DEMONSTRATION AND LECTURE IN AFTERNOON. After a short luncheon ad jour nmerit, a demonstration on a diseased Qk sheep (given by Mr A. Hancock) was ''conducted by Mr E. E. Eilpliick M.R.C.V.S., of the Department of Agriculture, Palmerston North. Mr Etphick dissected the sheep, pointed out the functions of the various organs*, and indicated the possible diseases to which they were subject. He also showed various diseased conditions of the sheep dissected, and indicated methods of prevention and treatment. At the conclusion of his demonstration a hearty vote of .thanks moved by Mr H Wilton, secretary of the Ballance Club, was carried by acclamation. The next lecture was on “Feed rations for Pigs,” using feu* demonstration purposes a pig lent by Mr R. A. Burke*, and was given by Mr E P. Nelson. President of the Wairarajia District Council of the Young Farmers’ Clubs, in making the. presentations, thanked the Ballance and Mangatainoka Clubs for the privilege of being present to perform the ceremony. Freeman, Secretary for the Young Farmers* Clubs throughout New Zealand. and remarking on how honoured they were to have him there for the occasion, asked him to say a few words.
