Electric Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, February 12 Much valuable bush was destroyed in a spectacular fire which swept through some 250 acres of Slate Forest plantations between Chelsea ar.d Kauri Point to-night. Believed to have bee?, started by tbie careless action of pic-knickers at Shark Bay. the fire spread rapidly till flames'4o feet high threatened to reach across a fire break to tin* estate of the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, Ltd. No water supply was available to attack the fire but a large army of volunteers assisted members of the fire brigade to bring the outbreak under control after about tour hours.
