MISHAP AT PICNIC
STONE FLUNG C ARELESSLY. A stone flung carelessly from the Ballance bridge at the Manawatu Gorge on Sunday during the railway picnic struck a young woman oil the temple, causing a painful cut. First aid was speedily administered by her friends but the outing was quite spoilt for her. The missile landed among a group of picnickers who were on the left bank overlooking the river. It is not known whether the stone was thus* directed intentionally or whether the thrower had been aiming at something in the river below but mis-thrown. Onlookers stated that certain youths quickly left the bridge at the first sign of pursuit.
