HOSPITAL FINANCING SYSTEM
ART UNION TO ENDOW BED Electric Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, June 22. The merits of .a proposal to seek the permission of the Government for thie holding of an art union to provide funds for the endowment of a bed at the Milson Home for crippled children at Takapuna, were debated at a meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board. A motion was introduced by Dr. Hastings that the board should consider the advisability of inaugurating an art union for the purpose. Dr. Hastings said that if the board eouli obtain £4OOO or £SOOO to endow a. bed an excellent start would have been made. There were many people who would look upon the scheme as an opportunity of making a donation to a very worthy object. Several other speakers expressed the opinion that the proposal, if adopted would strike at the root of the system of hospital financing in New Zealand, a system which had won a wide measure of praise. On a division being taken. Dr. Hastings s motion was carried by one vote.
