The Pahiatua Herald PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING THURSDAY, AUGUST 26, 1937. POWER OF VITAMINS.

II ie French journal “World Trade writes on the subject of vitamins in the following strain : Some of the world’s leading trade, experts see vitamins as a big factor to stimulate business here and in the world. This is roughly the theory: Higher standards of nutrition will help solve the plight of agriculture in any country because more vitamin consumption will increase purchases from farmers who in turn, will naturally want more manufactured goods. And since they say the world's trade troubles cannot get better before the purchasing power of the agricultural countries is improved, their idea, if it works, may prove a windfall from an unexpected source for the producers of milk, vegetables, fruits, eggs, wheat, or sugar. It sounds pleasant, anyway, even if it hasn’t been tried. Last year, the League of Nations’ interest in the subject was aroused, and America was one of twelve countries that voted to put it on the agenda. Now surveys are going on, and we may yet hear how such things as little vitamins helped solve our own and others’ farm problems and even promoted business all around. TO-MORROW NIGHT’S EIGHT.

Englishmen like a good clean fight and for this reason the sport of boxing appeals to our race. A boxer, if he is to accomplish any measure of success, must be matched with discretion and also be prepared to take hard knocks. The path. to boxing tame lies along a very difficult route over which many falter and are left at the roadside. Pahiatua has produced some brilliant boys in the past to name only Ted Oxley and Harold Reeve. These lads, bred and bom in the Rush, brought honour to Pahiatua. and tame to. themselves by their achievements in the ring, and incidentally gave the local boxing association a good leg-up financially. Ted Oxley has left the ring now, but Harold Reeve is still very much oil the job and to-morrow night will make a welcome reappearance before the Pahiatua. public in a professional bout with Pill Pluto. By staging this fTght the local association, which some two months ago leceived a financial knock-out in the Smith-Glen-garry fight, have proved that they are true to the fighting spirit and can, come back alter a beating. They have learned the lesson of discrimination as regards matching and may look forward with confidence to good support from the local boxing patrons who will no doubt be very anxious to see Harold Reeve measure UP against the doughty Australian whose record in New Zealand has been so successful thus far.
