BYRNE SHIELD CONTEST. MANGAMUTU WIN HONOURS. The last matches of the Byrne Shield competition were fired last night, when Mangamutu defeated Konini, Nirealm accounted for Mako-mr-ko and Hukanui lowered the colours of Mangatainoka. This decides the contest and gives Mangamutu a straight-out win as they were on terms with Makomako, who required to defeat Nireaha to reach a shootoff. The Nireaha riflemen called at Konini last night on their return from Makomako and enquired who had won between Konini and Mangamutu and on hearing that Mangamutu had come out on top Mr W. Manser congratulated Mr L. J, Heayns and his fellow-shooters on winning the Byrno Shield. Incidentally it was Mr tieayns’ birthday that day and the news of _ Mangamutu’s victory was well received. MANGAMUTU v. KONINI. The Mangamutu team put on a very solid score of 947 to 881 registered by Konini, L. J. Heayns and A. Tait topping the score with 99 apiece. Alter supper had been partaken of at the conclusion of the shoot, Mr H. Avery congratulated the Mangamutu team on their victory in the Byrne Shield and assured them that Konini did not begrudge their success. Mr Heayns, responding, said Mangamutu had been very much up against it this season for members and they were naturally elated at winning the shield after trying for so long. Mr O. Stone, president of the Bush Association, added his mede of congratulation to Mangamutu and pointed out that clubs should endeavour to do a little better each season and success would eventually come to them. He also extended congratulations to A. Tait on winning the champ.onship, the latter having turned the tables on L. J. Heayns, who beat him last year for the honour. Scores recorded are set out below:

NIREAHA v. MAKOMAKO. Scoring in the Nireaha-Makomako match last night was very poor, Makomako being unable to take advantage of shooting on their own range. Nireaha, who Avon the first round match, registered 925 to which the home side replied with 919. J. P. Sigvertsen, the veteran Nireaha. rifleman, who has been such a tower of strength to his club, had the honour of topping the score with one off the possible. Details are set out below:
