DEFECTIVE MACHINERY.
BLAMED FOR FRENCH DEFEAT. (Received 12.20 p.m.) United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—(Copyright. LONDON August 23. The Times’ Paris correspondent says that the striking superiority of Italian planes which were equipped with Alfa Romeo engines over the French aeroplanes in the I sires air face has aroused bitter comment. Though the French aeroplanes were commercial and the Italian military' flic result is regarded as a severe lesson in the lack of preparation and co-operation. Inferior material is blamed by the Right- press which declared. that France’s best pilots were betrayed by defects due to the Socialist direction of the Air Ministry and the Socialist Labour legislation.
