JAP. SAMPAN RUNS AGROUND. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. St VA. September 28. It is now stated that three local v<'->el- which went alongside when the Japanese sampan, which ground ed off the coast last. week, got off tne reef were forcibly cut adrift, and that a Japanese with a spear threatened interlerers. The sampan made off at 10 knots. It is said to have 40 tons of trochus shell aboard.
A Suva cable published on September 25 stated that a strange vessel, which is believed to he a, Japanese sampan, went aground off the Lamhasa River. The Government yacht Pioneer, with police and Customs officials, left lor Lam has a to ensure compliance with the quarantine, Cusand immigration regulations. How ever, the sampan got off the reef at 11 p.m., and disappeared.
