BUTTER MARKET FIRMER. CHEESE STEADY. Tlie London butter market continued to ease in the early part of last week, New Zealand finest salted falling as low as 97s a cwt, but toward the close of the week the market recovered somewhat, and closed firm at up to lOls a cwt. Retail prices ' are nominally unchanged, hut New Zealand butter at Is Id a lb is becoming fairly general. American buying of Continental butter was more active last- year, principally Polish and Dutch butters being bought. American butter quotations are: New York, 34 if cents a lb; Montreal. 24$ cents. Deliveries of New Zealand , butter last week totalled 1983 tons, compared with 1835 tons for the previous week and 1909 tons a year ago. Australian deliveries were 892 tons against 200 tons a year ago. New Zealand butter in store now amounts to 5093 tons, including 437 tons ex the Akaroa, compared with 5533 tons for the previous week and 4458 tons a year ago. Australian stored butter totals 1141 tons against 1'620 tons a year ago. The cheese market is steady on available short supplies, with prices slightly easier than last week.
