A cablegram lias been, received by tho Prime Minister’s Depart mein; -from the Consul-General oi Papeete in reply to u message sent by Mr Lyons asking for new s of attempts •hi rescue of the man reported to be seen oil Motu Iti Island The cable states that the wireless message from the Captain, of the Port Darwin communicated to the French authorities on June 27th says the island was inhabited, bya group of Tahitians and would be visited by the Commissionaire at the end of this month. . - It would appear therefore that the .island is not uninhabited as thought .when the news of a castaway was received in Melbourne. The officers and seamen cf the Port Darw'in do snot believe that the person they saw was Ulm, they think the man Was probably a native who had been cast adrift from one of the adjacent islands.
