GIFT EVENING.

POPULAR COUPLE HONOURED. A large party of friends gathered at the Masonic Hall last night for the kitchen evening given by Mesdames E. E. Etz, N. Prussing, E. D. Lucas, A. MacGregor, W. J. "Mills and W. H. Murch in honour of Miss Phyllis Bentley and Mr J. Watkins, whose marriage takes place shortly. The evening was spent in dancing, interspersed with items. Mr J. Cornford provided excellent music and the extras by Mrs W. H. Murch were much appreciated. Misses Joan Murch and Aureen Jones gave an exhibition tap dance and Mr N. Wilton sang several songs, a com pa living himself on a guitar. During the evening a Monte Carlo waltz and the Lucky Gay Gordons were held, the respective winners being Mr and Mrs Brabner and Mrs T. O'Brien and Mr L. Hartley. A delicious supper was handed round, after which Mr 1). Brabner called on the guests of the evening to accept the many gifts and good wishes of those present. Miss N. Etz then presented Miss Bentley with a bouquet made up of everything handy for a kitchen. Mr Watkins, on behalf of Miss Bentley and himself, expressed thanks for the many presents and at the. same tjme thanked those who had organised the evening. The affianced couple were then accorded musical honours. Mr C. Davies, representing the Mangamutu Tennis Club, said he had a. very pleasant duty to perform and asked Miss Bentley to accept from the officials and members of the club a small token of their esteem. Miss Bentley, he said, was a popular member of the club and they sincerely hoped her wedding would not mean that they would lose a member but that she would make her husband join up also. He extended the club’s best wishes to both Muss Bentley and her future husband. Miss Bentley thanked the club for their good wishes. Dancing then continued till the early hours of the morning, Mr W. Bentley officiating as M.C.
