SANCTIONS OPPOSED.
DOMINIONS AGAINST MEASURE. SAVING FACE OF EUROPE. (Received 1.0 p.m.) United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copvright. LONDON, Juno 16. The evening newspapers give prominence to an announcement that Mr Lyons sent a cable to Mr Bruce in which he is dreporjed to have intimated that Australia was anxious to see the sanctions ended in view of their loss of Italian marketing. The, Sun-Herald says that Britain’s attitude towards sanctions was outlined by Mr Eden this afternoon at a conference with the Dominions High Commissioners, each of whom submitted their own Dominion's T PRESSURE FROM LONDON. Mr Bruce presented the Commonwealth’s case, the newspapers announcement of which caused a flutter, especially among foreign correspondents, who suspect that London inspired the Oom.inotLvtfealth ’ to initiate the abandonment of the sanctions to enable, the British Government to present a strong cases to the Commons on June 18th and simultaneously save the face of the -Continent. Actually all the Dominions except .South Africa favoured the dropping of the sanctions. - Mr Eden frankly explained the 'British reasons for the reversal of J>oliey. emphasising the failure of action which. caused splits aiid Europe and said that a continuation of the sanctions would make the position worse kqr^bruce. The Sun-Herald says that Mr Bruce has been offered and will probably accept the presidency cf the Dardanelles Conference commencing at Montreaux on June 22nd
