PRESBYTERIAN GUILD.

PRESENTATION TO MRS. PATERSON.

Yesterday afternoon the Presbyterian Ladies’ Social Guild held their usual monthly meeting Airs K. L. Warren presided over a very good attendance of members. The first half of the afternoon was devoted mainly to business matters.

Final arrangements were made regarding the Chrysanthemum Show and stallholders were appointed. Two beautiful Chynese worked waggon covers were donated by the Lakes’ Guild as a prize for the most points in the sewing section.

Mrs Warren welcomed Airs P. Jackson as a new member and said she hoped that Mrs Jackson would enjoy the afternoons held by the Guild.

The remainder of the afternoon took the form of a social, in honour of Mrs M. Paterson, who is leaving this month on a trip to America as delegate for the New* Zealand AVomen’s Institutes.

An interesting competition was held, the answers being words connected with the game of tennis. This was won by Mrs R. L. Darley.

A most enjoyable pianoforte solo was contributed by Airs Murc-h.

Another competition, “The Ages of Jones,*’ was won by Mrs M. Paterson.

At this stage afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs E. Etz and Miss Laurx Dick. Airs Warren asked Mrs Paterson to accept a. small presentation in the form of a book from the P.AV.AI.U. and Ladies’ Guild. Airs Paterson, she said, had been a most loyal member lor very many years, and was held in very great esteem by all. The guest was then accorded musical honours (played by Mrs Alurcli), the members joining in. Mrs Paterson, in replying, stated that she had been associated w’ith the P.W.M7U. and Guild as long as she had been in Pahiatua. Although she was often away at other meetings she said she always gave her spiritual support. Airs Paterson then thanked the members for their gift, saying that she would, enjoy reading her book while on board ship. Perhaps the members would like to hear just where she was going, Mrs Paterson continued, and told the meeting that she is to sail on April 28th for Vancouver, en route for Washington, where the Associated Countrywomen of the AA T orld are to held iheir conference. Mrs Paterson is the delegate for New- Zealand, which is one of 55 countries to be represented. A reception is to be held at White House at which each delegate is to read a report. Excursions are then to }>e arranged, one of the most important to a place called Stoneycreek, near Toronto, where the very first Women’s Institute was formed. Airs Paterson said she would enjoy visiting all the interesting places and would have lots to tel], when she arrived back in Pahiatua. Airs Alurth lendcred another solo, after which a most amusirfg novelty competition was held. The highest points were gained by Airs Warren.

At the conclusion, the president thanked th hostesses for the afterl oon tea served and the meeting closed with the Benediction.
