REPORTED CASUALTIES. USUAL CONFLICTING CLAIMS. (Received 11.10 a.m.) United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. ROME. February 12. It is officially stated that 261 Askar is lost their lives at Eritrea in Somaliland in January and 775 were killed since October 3rd when the war began. Of the 50.000 workmen employed in East Africa. 278 died between Januarv 1935 and December 1936. THE INEVITABLE DENIAL. Dessio officially denies the above war casualties, asserting that after the battle of Tembien, Abyssinian burying parties interred 15,000 Italians and 4123 Askaris. The report adds that 344 Askaris deserted to the Abyssinians in the current week. PIR A TING LTN IFOR MS. Ras Seyoum declares that he has started his own caperette brigade with the equipment from the slain in the Italian caperette brigade fitting them out in khaki shorts, boots and puttees, but is not using their black shirts. A solitary Italian bomber operating in the Waldia mis-sed the British Red Cross ambulance camp by 160 yards.
