EXTENSIONS TO AUCKLAND DOCK.

AUCKLAND. Last Night. The tender of Nil* \V. Williamson. contractor of Christchurch, of £2489 for the work of extending the Calliope dock was accepted by the Auckland Harbour Board to-day. The work, it is stated, will be begun, almost immediately. The extension to the dock is being made to accommodate the two large new c-misers Leander and Achilles, which are
shortly to replace the Dunedin and Diomede on the New Zealand naval station The plans provide for the lengthening of the clock-floor for an additional 13 feet, involving an excavation of about 1800 cubic yards of .sandstone and concrete work which is to bo completed within four months of the date of its commencement. This is part of the major scheme for improving the naval defences of New Zealand.
