SHORTAGE OF BREEDING EWES
Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report on their first ewe fair, held at iL’ilhiatuu yesterday, when they submitted a large entry of the leading lines of ewes in this district to a very large ii.ttenda.uce of buyers who were present, from Otaki. Wanganui, Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa and all Manawatu, and also Tatimarunui. The condition of all ewes yarded was the best we have seen for years. Our entry comprised two large lines of 2-th ewes, 1100 from Aohanga Station and 700 from Dr. C. 1 . Knight. They sold reauily at most satisfactory prices to vendors. Xt is seven years since such good prices were realised and a shortage of good breeding ewes is evident. The following prices were realised: On account F. White, 5 408 5-yr ewes, 26s 7d. On aleoimt Dr. C. P. Knight, 614 5-yr ewes 25s Bd. On account Aohanga Station, 813 5-yr ewes 25s 10d, 605 2-th ewes 31s Id. 346 4-th ewes 335, 177 2-th ewes 34s 4d, 41 2-th ewes 275, 141 4-th ewes 31s lOd, 81 m.a. ewes 28s Id, 100 6-yr ewes 225. 66 6-th ewes 28s, 231 Syr ewes 225. On account Dr. C. P. Knight, 75 4th ewe.s 345, 537 2th ewes 375. On account K. J. Didsbury, 59 2th ewes 34s 4d, 174 4 and 5-yr ewes 245. On account H. Morison,, 121 2-th ewes 33s 7d. On afccoimt T. Stone, 115 2-th ewes 30s 7d. On account D. Morison, 173 2-th ewes 33s Bd. On account J Stewart, 43 2-th ewes 35s 4d On account S. M. McLeod, 48 2-th owes 32s 7d, 229 4-yr ewe s , 28s Id. On account P. Valvois, 66 2-th ewes 35s 4d, 112 4-yr ewes 27s 3d. On account H. Cotter, 300 5-yr owes 27s 4d (top price). On account Whiteombe Bros., 48 2-th ewes 33s Id. 149 5 and 6-yr ewes 23s 3d. On account J. Breeds, 100 5-vr ewes 265. On account M. Castle, 251 5 and 6yr ewes 21s Bd. On account W. Burgess, 117 ewes 19s 2d.
