MORE RACING DAYS.
INCREASED RECREATION NEEDED. Electric Telegraph—Press Association ROTORUA, February 8. Belief that the time would come when* there would be more racing days allotted in the Dominion was expressed by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. W. E. Parry, when replying to a deputation from the Rotorua Racing Club which asked for an extra racing permit. The Minister stated that the Government stood for five days’ work and two days’ recreation, and to follow this policy it would have to create facilities and give the people means to enjoy recreation. He thought that encouragement should be given to hunt clubs, so as to engender a sporting spirit among the farming community and cater for isolated districts. Unless sporting facilities were provided in country districts, sons of farmers would drift to the cities for work. However, the turnover o*f the totalisator depended on the incomes of ihe people and the Government would also have to pass the necessary legislation which would ensure a. greater earning capacity, for the people.
