WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
MANGATA IN OK A MEETING. Mrs Ross presided over a good attendance of members at the first 1936 meeting ot the Mangatainoka Women’s Institute, held on Thursday last. A picnic was to have been held in lieu of the January meeting, but owing to unsettled weather and other causes this had been postponed, and is now to be held in the Carnival Park on Saturday, February 22nd, weather permitting. Mrs J. Swanney junr., link correspondent, read tyyo interesting letters from overseas, after which the demonstrator for the afternoon was called upon. Miss Cavanagh, ot Hamua, gave this exhibition, which was of silk art work, and her instruction was much appreciated. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to her, on the mixtion or Mi ss Pryde. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Ginnane, Hughes, Sharplin and Miss Roy. A competition for scones was won by Miss Fergus, Miss Cook being second and Miss Pryde third, while one for the best article made from a sugar bag was won by Miss Cook, Mrs Ross being second and Mrs Howell third. A musical parcel competition was won by Mrs Wiltshire. Thus one more pleasant gathering was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem, Mrs L. Rusden presiding at the piano.
