SCHEME FOR MARIMA. OVERSEER'S SUGGESTION. At the meeting of the Pahiatua County Council to-dav the Overseer (Ml- S. Macrae) reported that he had made an inspection of the flood site at Manma, and said that if the three contributing bodies concerned (the Council, the Public Works and the hand Board) united in a protection scheme, it would cost each one £BOO but there would be no guarantee that scheme would be a. success and tliat flooding would cease. Any iirotective works that were put in would nave to be added to at some future occasion, moreover. Mr Macrae suggested that the County should spend some money on the road along this point, and replace the present 25 loot span bridge (which is in a state of disrepair) with one of 40 feet span, also raising the level of the road between the small bridge to the 11 y, Marnna, bridge, which would result in the water running back intothe channel 1 one way and permit it to pass without obstruction beneath the wider span. The Oyer seer calculated that the Council’s share of ™„ cost tins work would he about £6oo, and he suggested the engineer be permitted to make an inspection and survey of the locality preparatory to any further action; He pointed out that the whole trouble about the locality lay in the shingle deposit on the opposite bank. Cr. Fouh.v said lie had inspected the spot, and agreed entirelv with the overseer’s opinion, l Xt subsequently decided to have Mr Sladden make an inspection and survey of the site pending further action.
