After leaving New Zealand ho established a, business in Melbourne and won the agriculturists!’ prize of £25 for the quantity and quality of skins and hides exported from Victoria for two years in succession.
The Pahiatua Volunteer Fire Brigade will hold the annual competitions fox - the Hedges Memorial Shield at the end of next week, there will be three dry one-man events, and the shield will go to the fireman scoring the highest aggregate of points, which will be allotted on a three, two and one basis. The trophy was won last year by A. Gowler. The Brigade’s team for the Hastings demonstrations next year is practising assiduously and hopes to give a good account of itself.
The weekly euchre party run in aid of .St. Brigid’s Convent School attracted a good attendance on Wednesday evening, and again competition for the' prizes was keen. Mrs A filler and Airs Braggins tied for first place and, cutting off, the awards were mad© in that order with Miss Zelda Levy third. Messrs Stack and Murphy tied for the men’s prize and the former won on the cut, afterwards donating his trophy hack again. Messrs Murphy anil Hirst took the second and third prizes.
