GERMAN HOPES.
ENGLISH FRIENDSHIP ESSENTIAL. TREATY REVISION DEMANDED. (Received 1 p.m.) United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copvright. BERLIN, February 5. Germany is closely following the Paris discussions, and does not conceal her belief that whatever is dene without her is done against her. The old fears of an encirclement of Germany arc being revived, and. the Wilhelm strasso is (‘specially apprehensive regarding the development of British, French and Russian relations, as. Hitler’s policy has long been to obtain Britain’s friendship, or at least neutrality, in order to secure a free hand to deal with France and expand in southern and eastern Europe. The Frankfurter Zeitung in an inspired article declares; cc England is for us a door into the world, but. unfortunately French and British differences have not brought Germany closer to Britain, partly owing to certain aspects of Nazism, or partly through fear of future German actions. That distrust must be removed.” The article, moreover, goes oil to insist on a. treaty revision, especially in respect to colonies, as Germany ■would never lie satisfied with access to other people’s raw materials.
