■LOOK UP AND LAUGH. ’ The name of Gracie Fields at the head or a cast is always a guarantee of a real entertainment treaS and that is why filmgoers would be well advised not to miss the populaß Lancashire comedienne’s !; :estj merry musical comedy "Lock Up and Laugh, which comes to the Kings Theatre to-night. It is Gracie at the very top of her form. You ail remember how you screamed at her previous pictures: "Sake in our Alley,” “Looking on the Bi mhK Sme, “This Week of Gra.e,’» “Love, Life and Laughter," and “Sing a s we Go.” Weil, even laughter-laden efforts pale into insignificance alongside the hilaritv of this uproarious comedy. This time Gracie is a theatrical "star who returns to her home in Lancashire alter a successiul tour abroad te find her brother and father in distressing circumstances. Tliev eke out their livelihood by selling wares in the local market and even this small pittance is threatened lv a wealthy department-store owner who is using his influence to have the market closed. But Gracie in.- ne intention of taking this lving down and so in her irresponsible and original manner she gets to work to prevent it. This is where the real inn begins I lie big climax arrives when an old print-seller shows Gra ie an old volume proving that the market has -a charter granted i . the ( rown. It IS then nec-essarv t get to London and place the do- iment before the highest legal authorities. In order to do this Gracie sots off in a plane but her sole compin: ui is the print-seller and not. as -lie supposes, the pilot. He knows as much about piloting a ’plane as Gracie does and that is nothing, llnis the laughter lady ot the land becomes the scream of the skies It's a* not of happiness.
