BANDITS RUN OFF WITH £IBOO United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, January 31. Two bandits shot an armed escort in the head in the city early this evening and escaped with a bag containing £181)0. The escort, James Striven, aged 64, is in hospital in a critical condition. The hold-up was most daring and took place in a crowded street. Seri von was entering a taxi in which a. clerk from the office of the Controller of Stamps was seated with his money-bag between his feet. After shooting Seri veil, the bandits seized the bag and escaped in a car driven by a third man. A taxi-driver pursued the car, which was soon lost in traffic. The money was thq day’s takings at the Stamps Office.
