Sunshine within more than compensates for its absence without.** 1). G. Brin ton. The committee of the Pahiatua Horticultural and Industrial Society meet to-morrow evening to decide definitely the question of holding a show this year. The Pahiatua bowlers successfully* defended the Man.son and Barr Oup against Eketahuna on Saturday, winning by 28—9. The l inks were : Pahiatua, Lett, P .Walsh. Peterson and Kershaw (s) ; Eketahuna. T. Hooper, Edge, Amundsen and W. Hooper (s). A Herald representative approached Mr 1). G. Gregory of the “Forest Nursery” this morning to ascertain the extent of damage to his valuable trees, and learned that with the exception of several unimportant ones the hurricane did no damage at all. Mr G.regorie stated that young trees especially maeroparpas would withstand the ravages of such a gale far better than older trees. The Pahiatua Bowling Club’s plants and shrubbery escaped thoseverity of yesterday’s storm thanks to the security of the tall board fence. The only noticeable sign of damage was' on the summer-house roof along the right-hand side of the entrance where for about half way along the top the wisteria creeper had been blown over the back of the board fence.
