RECORD WOOL PRICE.

CHRISTCHURCH SALE. tORRIEDALE AT 20cl POUND. Electric Telqgraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, January 27. The second Christchurch wool sale of the season, which was held today, was a most satisfactory one for growers of fine wools. An improvement in the values ruling at the first sale was expected in sympathy with the improvement at the London sales, but the prices to-day definitely exceeded expectations for all better class wools. Super wools were higher than at the December sales by Id a pound, and fine pieces by about 2d. Coarse wools were from par to £d better and slightly in sellers’ favour compared with recent auctions in the Dominion.

Passings were negligible, representing about 3 per c y ent. of the total offering. The top price so faith is season was obtained for a line of Corriedale, selling at 20£d. Comeback wool made to 19d, half bred and merino to 18fd. A total of 28,366 bales was offered. The clip was of excellent quality, but barely u,p to the. average of the second sale. Some of it was heavier in condition. Ap'art from this, the wool was clean and well grown. Some of # the best of the province’s clips were forward, and in addition there was a good representation of Marlborough wool. The proportion of coarse wool was comparatively small. Five bales of Laminermoor Corriedale brought 2G±d, the highest price this season; the second best price was 19|cl for JR oval Downs Corriedale ewe. The range of prices is as follow:
