CHICAGO COMES TO LONDON.
United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, January 25 The discovery of the bullet-riddled body of a scar-faced elderly bookmaker under a hedge outside Sit. Albans and subsequent investigations indicate that the traditional Chicago gangster methods have at last been adopted in England possibly a,; the outcome of a race-gang feud. The customary baffling features are present. A village carpenter discovered the corpse earlv on the morning of Friday, noting that though it had raiued all night, the clothing, including a buttoned-up overcoat, was completely dry. The police believe the victim was ‘ taken for a ride” from a-West End night club, “put on the spot” in <i motor-car and dumped on the roadside. No revolver was found. It is believed the victim was accompanied by a man and woman who called at a roadside cafe ill the village of London’s "Colney at midnight on Thursday.
ROBBERY POSSIBLE MOTIVE. LONDON. January 26. The St. Albans victim was, a. Erench-Canadian named Emil Allard. He lived in a single room at St. Jain.es street. London. He arrived in England ill 1933 and was an itinerant jewellery- dealer, not a. bookmaker. Hlis oni.v male friend saw him the nightbetcro the body was found. He is believed to have £2OO worth of jewellery in liis possession. The motive of the crime was possible robbery.
