On a narrow portion of the road he met another ear and while endeavouring to pass went ever a hank crashing through a scrub fence a hundred feet in. "the Makohou stream below, coming to rest upside clown. By a lucky chance the ear’s progress was checked at the last moment. and instead of entering the deep water sideon it straddled a. bank out of the water sufficiently to allow Mr Manning to escape through a window. He wa s assisted to tin* road by the other motorist and brought to Marton. suffering from shock and only minor injuries. The .salvage of the ear will present considerable difficulties.
