NEARLY CIVIL WAR.
DEMONSTRATION IN PARIS
United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, November 12. Idle Manchester Guardian’s Paris correspondent says a provocative effort by the Solidarity* Francaise to turn the Armistice celebrations into a Fascist demonstration caused trouble when the Blue Shirts, carrying the banners of the Fascists, insolently marched up the Champs Elysees.
An atmosphere ot civil war swept the crowd and there were immediate shouts of “Down with the Fascists !” answered with cries of i ye France!’ and the singing of the Marseillaise. Sin h shouting d»rom thousands of throats has not been heard in Paris before. Free fights started everywhere*, the marvel lieing that tlie police prevented a. street battle in which 300,000 would have participated.
Ilie body is not connected with the ex-servicemen and it is inexplicable how permission was granted for such a provocative march.
